You can install any operating system you want. Just be sure to back up anything on there you want before formatting and loading a new OS. If you want to keep Vista get the upgrade (as long as its an upgrade from the trial version and not an upgrade from an older version of Windows…contact wherever you bought it from about that)
You will need to purchase a license for whatever operating system you use for both laptops. (unless you go with some version of linux or other free OS)
